I have been very tough on appraisal services because I don't see any that are truly qualified. I have blogged about appraisals several times. And let me say, that appraising a domain and figuring value is a very difficult thing.

I totally agree that domain appraisals have very limited value. The only real value I see in them as a domain reseller is when the appraisal does come back with a favorable value estimate, the domain seller can then link to the appraisal in an effort to justify asking price.
The problem of course, is that domain appraisal services tend to assign arbitrary values to the domains they appraise, without any real rhyme or reason that can be mathematically dissected and broken down into value increments that make sense relative to the estimated value of the domain being appraised.
Bottom line: domain appraisals are fun, but generally not worth paying for unless you can be reasonably assured that the figure returned meets or exceeds the desired asking price.
