Indian Celebrities Rush to Register Dot Asia Domain Names - DNHour

DotAsia, a not-for-profit organization formed by national top-level domain registries around Asia such as .IN, .CN, .JP, .NZ and .SG, has announced that it has received signups from India for its ‘Celebrity Pioneer Program.’ This news came to be known at the ICANN’s 31st International Public Meeting that took place in New Delhi.

Basically, the ‘Celebrity Pioneer Program’ offers Indian stars and celebrities the chance, or should we say, priority to register their domain names with .Asia before the registrations are actually opened to the general public, which is scheduled to open on February 20, 2008.

There is a lot in a domain name. Some domain names, such as Poker.com have been sold for a whopping amount close to $27 million.

“There are more than 450 million online customers in Asia, and the .ASIA domain name is a gateway to reach this largest Internet market in the world. While .COM ignited the ecommerce boom in the US, .EU was created for Europe. .Asia is the first global top-level-domain that is headquartered in Asia and will be the platform for growth of the region. The Pioneer Domains Program focuses on building positive usage of the .Asia domain which in turn drives adoption and development for the Internet community across Asia,” said Edmund Chung, CEO, DotAsia Organization Limited.
