"Many new domainers feel that the domain name train has left the station. They look at the pioneers like Rick Schwartz, Frank Schilling and Kevin Ham and think, “Those guys took all the good names. There’s nothing left. It was a one-time deal..."

DomainerPro.com: Chronicles of a Domain Name Professional
Someone said that luck is the marriage of hard work and opportunity. The guys who made it big weren’t lucky; they worked hard and took a chance. There are still plenty of opportunities as the domain name market evolves.

L.U.C.K. : Laboring Under Correct Knowledge. These people had the knowledge and they labored with it. That is why they are millionaires now.
I like another quote I got from Sahar Sarid's blog: Money does not make money for you..it is knowledge that makes money!
Cheers,
Al.

Good quote Al :) (and a vote for your article Peter)
There are still a lot of opportunities but I'd agree you have to work harder now to get the money. Parking pages don't cut it unless you have the quality/quantity, which is where the large names in the industry have excelled themselves.
The two main areas I see as interesting are emerging ccTLD markets. You can still get a lot of one-word domains there and it makes sense that they will eventually rise in value. The other area is in domain renovation. In the same way people pick up an old flat and renovate it for a profit, that opportunity is very much there for expired domains.
