I believe WallStreet.com top bid was $3m and passed in - Its $10M domain if I ever saw one.

I bought my first domain GamblersHotline.com in 1996 - I still own the domain and want premium $$ for it. It is easier today to buy domains than it was back then and their are still many good value domain available.

That's nothing compared to the outright hijacking going on by registrars!

A much more reasoned policy.

No doubt. You spend some money developing a program, hire a few salespeople and customer service reps, spend some money on promotion, then let people park thousands of domain names at no cost to yourself, while you take a big chunk of the profit. There's very little downside. Hmm... this has got me thinking now.

4-letter .com domains can still be acquired fairly cheaply at expired domain auctions and through discussion forums. I have a feeling these represent a good investment, especially the ones that are pronounceable or that are commonly used acronyms. I recently bought vmrh.com with the express intent of re-selling it to a particular company. That company did not go for it, but I've found that it gets traffic on its own anyway. 4-letter domains are really never a bad buy, as long as you don't overpay.

Yes, but I wonder if it will be available to domainers at large, or just on the pages of the investors involved in the discussions, such as Frank Schilling.

Agreed. I've used StatCounter for over 5 years and never have had a problem.
Best of all, if you don't get tons and tons of traffic you can take advantage of the free service.

Will the dot mobi extension really take off? It’s certainly heated up in the last few months and premium dot mobis are commanding high prices. As for the long run, it’s hard to say. If it catches on it could become very big. I wouldn’t consider dot mobis to be a sure-thing, but they’re a good and even necessary speculative play for someone with a bit of spare change.

As a reference this is the article by Jay
I'm quite excited about a 1-letter domain auction. With bidders at the level of Google this would generate new highs for auction prices and bring domaining (and auctions as a channel) into the public spotlight. I'm sure there are a few players lining themselves up to host such a historic event though, if ICANN does agree to sell.

This is very good news for domainers. The long awaited marriage between PPC and PPL (pay per lead) on parked pages with dynamic contents and products can be achieved.

Hmm I wouldn't believe everything the Washington post writes about Russia :) That article is typical of them, very little factual base and lots of 'what if'.
There are strong pro-Kremlin groups but they seem to work independently. The Kremlin doesn't exactly do much to clamp down on them though. I don't see Russia creating a 'separate' internet - it's just another headline-grabbing proposal by a politician. Due to the political balance in Russia they tend to do this a lot to try and get attention. These calls started during the recent dispute with ICANN over deleting the .SU domains. ICANN is essentially a US company and feathers of Russian national pride were instantly ruffled. ;)
There are calls at the moment to get a Cyrillic extension (.RF) but is is expected that .RU will allow IDN registrations this year - largely defeating the need for this. However they were thinking that the old .SU users (10'000+) could migrate to this extension when registrations are stopped. I guess we'll have to see how the ICANN/SU dispute plays out to see if .RF has a future.

Good quote Al :) (and a vote for your article Peter)
There are still a lot of opportunities but I'd agree you have to work harder now to get the money. Parking pages don't cut it unless you have the quality/quantity, which is where the large names in the industry have excelled themselves.
The two main areas I see as interesting are emerging ccTLD markets. You can still get a lot of one-word domains there and it makes sense that they will eventually rise in value. The other area is in domain renovation. In the same way people pick up an old flat and renovate it for a profit, that opportunity is very much there for expired domains.

What a gem! It should hit it's target price easily, judging from the crazy domain prices nowadays.

L.U.C.K. : Laboring Under Correct Knowledge. These people had the knowledge and they labored with it. That is why they are millionaires now.
I like another quote I got from Sahar Sarid's blog: Money does not make money for you..it is knowledge that makes money!

Someone said that luck is the marriage of hard work and opportunity. The guys who made it big weren’t lucky; they worked hard and took a chance. There are still plenty of opportunities as the domain name market evolves.

This is an amazing domain, but $50m? Come on. My $50m would go straight to sex.com for maximum ROI. I think your sale will be in seven figures.

A little too complex for me. I use a combination of a few basic tools and gut feeling (based on my knowledge of similar domain sales).
