Posted by Scott Arenson as Domain Development, Registration
Stanford Law Professor Lawrence Lessig is known for using a style of computer presentations “typified by rapid display of short phrases or pictures.” James MacLennan calls his presentation style the “Lessig Method.” Dick Hardt, Founder & CEO of Sxip Identity gave an incredible presentation using this style at OSCON 2005.
I like to think that registering domain names also has certain styles. One of them I call the “Schilling Style” after domainer Frank Schilling.
Blondehaircolor.com is great example:

Three-word, consumer product domain name and a “.com.” Enough said. 29,000 hits on Google for the bracketed keyword search term. Frank probably has thousands of domains like this. Frank leaves a lot of these domains “on the table,” however. I picked up Brunettehaircolor.com last year in one of my buying binges. There are only 6,170 hits on Google for the bracketed keyword search term. I guess Frank doesn’t like brunettes as much…

1Thank you for the link to Dick Hardt’s very interesting presentation. Also enjoyed your post. I am a beginner domainer and I believe I belong to the school of “Schilling Style”. Its not by choice, just whats available. Personally I would prefer “Kevin Ham” style of domaining.

2Thank you for your comment. I think what makes the “Schilling Style” distinctive is the layout and design of the pages themselves combined with the domain name. Looking at parked pages can be a lot like bird watching. They may not be the best looking pages in the world but you know them when you see them.
