Top 15 squatted .eu domains
According to the EurId.eu’s statistics there are currently 2,651,547 registered .eu domains. Germany leads the way in total number of .eu domains totaling 844,318 registrations. The sunrise period, open to trademark holders wanting to register their brands and company names, was launched in December 2005. This was followed up by the landrush free-for-all in April 2006.
Even though there was ample time left for the trademark holders to get their names, there are a number of notable names that were snatched up by squatters when the landrush was launched in April 2006. Here is a list of 15 interesting names that are not held by their trademark holders:
- iPhone.eu - registered in October 2006 by the company Virtualisers
- WordPress.eu - registered in April 2006 by the company Parknet
- Twitter.eu - registered in April 2006 by the company World Index Limited
- Digg.eu - registered in April 2006 by the company Besite
- TechCrunch.eu - registered in August 2007 by ???
- Zune.eu - registered in May 2006 by the company Register.com
- SecondLife.eu - registered in December 2006 by the company Yggdrasil Beheer
- Typepad.eu - registerd in June 2006 by the company Kausani Enterprises
- Flock.eu - registered in April 2006 by the company NEW MEDIA GROUP
- Jaiku.eu - registered in March 2007 by ???
- Blognation.eu - registered in May 2007 by ??? (oops)
- Linkedin.eu - registered in April 2006 by the company Vinitsia.com
- MovableType.eu - registered in June 2006 by ???
- Plaxo.eu - registered in April 2006 by ???
- GoogleApps.eu - registered in November 2007 by the company Xel Media
It will be interesting to know whether the lawyers get involved.

I was just wondering that do these domains get any natural traffic or not,since dot com is the king.If they do not get any traffic what is the use of registering such names.

I’d think they get traffic in any tld… folks always try to type in the tld near home.
