XXX tld rejected by ICANN again
ICMRegistry has been trying to get the adult gTLD .XXX approved by ICANN for a while now. On two previous occassions their request had been rejected by ICANN, and this time it was no different.
ICMRegistry claims that by moving adult/porn related websites to the .XXX tld, we would be able to regulate content easier and would prevent people from accidentally running into content they would otherwise avoid.
Conservative groups on the other hand, claim that a tld for the adult industry would legitimize pornography.
Some people from the porn industry also oppose the idea as they are worried a move to the .XXX tld would confine their trade to a ghetto.
“We are extremely disappointed by the board’s action today,”
said Stuart Lawley, ICM’s president and chief executive. He added that the organisation would continue to fight for the establishment of a .xxx domain.

Hmm, so let me get this straight. The porn industry is actually worried about becoming the ghetto of the Web? I don’t like the filth that’s out there, but if putting them all into a “xxx” category means they can be identified/regulated better, then I’m all for it.
