Via Valleywag. Google completes the purchase of Chinese domain G.CN. There is no mention of the price paid but this supports Jay Westerdal's recent proposal on auctioning off the reserved one-letter .COM domains. Google would definitely be a player in the bidding war.

I'm quite excited about a 1-letter domain auction. With bidders at the level of Google this would generate new highs for auction prices and bring domaining (and auctions as a channel) into the public spotlight. I'm sure there are a few players lining themselves up to host such a historic event though, if ICANN does agree to sell.
